Chubb Fire & Security warns home and business owners against unscrupulous operators

Chubb Fire & Security has sent out a warning to consumers to be wary of unscrupulous individuals or companies posipted to gain access to homes or business premises under false pretences. Many of these organisations attempt to sell inferior security alarm systems or fire extinguishers or to provide services for which they are as fire and security technicians or agents.  This follows a spate of incidents where bogus officials have attem

The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) was established to protect and maintain the professionalism of the industry through the assessment and registration of all competent response officers and service technicians.  The fire industry is regulated by the South African Qualification and Certification Committee (SAQCC Fire), established to protect and maintain safety of the workplace.

Managing director of Chubb Security SA, Neville Rothfusz says consumers should use common sense when approached by organisations or individuals.

“All reputable service providers, including sales personnel, should carry positive identification and/or proof of PSIRA/SAQCC Fire registration.  All our response officers and fire technicians respond to calls in branded Chubb vehicles, whilst our Chubb Fire team wear dark blue Chubb inscribed uniforms,” he said.

“If you are going to be away from the home make sure your domestic worker and/or other family members are informed of the pending arrival of the technician.

“Never allow any stranger into your home. Even if you have a scheduled appointment with a service provider, you are still at liberty to ask them for identification,” said Rothfusz.
